Time to pivot to a skills-led model
There has been increased reporting of age discrimination in the Australian and UK workforce, yet it is unclear if this is a result of societal attitudes shifting, a higher willingness to report it or more media attention across more platforms. For whatever reason, organisations risk missing out on talent at both ends of the spectrum.
It's not beneficial for any organisation to squeeze out mature, digitally-savvy skillsets in a time of complex change, and it can be frustrating for ambitious younger workers to wait for someone to vacate a spot in the level above before they can progress, while also missing out on experienced leadership.
To benefit the best talent in every generation I believe it is time to dump the traditional hierarchy and pivot to skills-led models. This is the closest we can get to an inclusive meritocracy.
